SIGNIFICANCE OF FULL MOON DAY & STARS IN SIDHAR'S(ETERNAL SOULS)LIFE

Of the 27 stars(astrology)one star matches each  full moon day in each month. The same star will co inside in each month.Like  Thiruvathirai star in Margazhi month, poosam star  co inside in the month of Thai Tamil month. All sidhars(saints)attain blissful eternal life with death less body. That is what Vallalar advocated for, asking the common man to know this truth &attain salvation in this birth itself.None has told this secret openly as Vallalar .He also wrote in prose form for the benefit of common man even though he has written in poems known as "THIRUVARUTPA"  by him.Later i would present you a chart showing the list of full moon days &stars. Many important God festivals are celebrated in these days as i earlier said in Sundara  moorthy nayanar's histoy(celabrating margazhi thiruvathirai festival at Thiruvarur). On this particular day only  Lord Nataraja & Thiagaraja comes out of temple & visits four broad streets in a decorated chariot for all people to worship at  their door step, showing in principle that  Lord always ready to liberate his devotees from the endless births. The coming 3rd Feb 2015 is a full moon day which played an important role in  Vallalar' life.I will later tell later these things.I will join you in the first week of feb.

LIFE HISTORY OF VALLALAR

Ramalingam used to go to Kandha sami temple(கந்தசாமி  கோயில் )around 9years.This is before he had  the darshan of lord  Muruga of  Thiruthani in the mirror. This temple is situated near chennai central railway station. He has written 31 beautiful songs praising  Lord Muruga. These songs are of very high standard. One has to study in original version of Tamil.Large number of commercial shops are surrounding this temple.Broad way,Kuralagam &Parry's corner are near by it.A lot of busyness men daily worship at this temple before starting their work. They are all attracted towards Vallalar, happily celebrating his important achievements in life.He told people that all were equal before God.All religions are equal & showing the pathway to realize God.Even though poor feeding existed before his arrival  to this world,he very much stressed the importance of poor  feeding. He insisted that no one should suffer from  hunger. His teachings were revolutionary similar to that of our freedom fighter & great patriotic poet Mahakavi Subramanya  Bharadhiar &Swami  Vivekananda. He also started a school  to teach Thirukkural(written by Sri.Thiruvalluvar before 2000 years) in his later years of life.He asked people not to kill any living being. He stressed very much to follow vegetarian culture  in taking food.Since all are creations of God,we should protect them.He said that it is one of the important step to realize  god.                                                                                                                      He stayed at Chennai till he was 33years.He came there at the age of two.He taught Tamil to many students.Even many great Tamil scholars appreciated his talent &  Maha vidwan Meenatchi Sundaram pillai is  one among them.He effortlessly wrote all types of poems in Tamil  while many others could concentrate on only one type of poem. His grammatical knowledge was  exemplary. He could  clear many complicated doubts in Tamil Grammar.                                                                                                       His life  history:  First worships Lord Muruga(Kandha kottam,Thiruttani)                                                                         Worships Lord  Siva of Thiruvotriyur                                                                                                         Then Worships Lord Nataraja Of Chidambaram                                                                                       Finally worships God in Divine Light Form.

Daily Kolam Design–2/ Free Hand Rangoli Patterns

Here is yet another interesting daily kolam design. This pattern may look confusing to you.But its really a simple one to draw if u practice. My neighbours used to ask my wife to teach this kolam whenever she draws it at our entranceHappy.

Simple Daily Kolam Design-1/ Rangoli Patterns

Today i have shared my wife’s one of the daily kolam designs.Hope u all will try this.Next week i will share some simple & easy apartment kolam designs for beginners.

MAIDEN DISCOURSE OF RAMALINGAM AS A BOY OF 9 YEARS.

Sri Sabapathy ,elder brother of Ramalingam was an expert in delivering religious discourses about 63  Saiva Saints(followers of Lord Shiva & whom  had personally seen Shiva & experienced His bliss).Their biography was written in poetic form called" Peria Puranam"bySri.Sekkizhar,   a learned gentleman & a minister of Chola kingdom. One rich business man by name Mr.Somu chettiar had arranged the discourse by Mr.Sabapathy.The discourse was arranged in the night hours so that much people  could listen to it after finishing their work.Mr.Sabapathy took with him Ramalingam to read some history pages in between his discourse. Then he was around nine years only.                              There was very good response & audience  to hear the discourse daily. One day Mr.Sabapathy suddenly became sick &could not go to the discourse. He was  so much worried as lot of people would be waiting there to hear  his discourse. So he asked Ramalingam  to convey this.Ramalingam  went & informed the organizer  Somu chettiar. But the disappointed audience asked Ramalingam to recite few poems about Saint Thirugnanasambandhar.Ramalingam agreed to this reluctantly& started reciting  the first  poem"ulagelam" in Peria  Puranam ." உலகெலாம் உணர்ந்தோதற்கரியவன்"- பெரிய புராணம்"- திரு.சேக்கிழார் .                                            Then Ramalingam started interpreting  the meaning of the poem elaborately that the audience &organizer Somu chettiar remained  spell bound till he finished the discourse. They were wondering how a nine year boy could explain these most philosophical things & were also moved very much by expression of his devotion to God.Those who had assembled there had the rare feeling of realizing God in themselves & began to visualize god in every thing of His creation. So Somu chettiar & the audience wanted Ramalingam to  continue the discourse daily.Somu chettiar met Mr.Sabapathy & informed him to send Ramalingam regularly.Mr.Sabapathy was surprised to hear this, however agreed to send Ramalingam. After he recovered from illness,he secretly went to the place of discourse &watched Ramalingam's speech. He was also wondering where Ramalingam had learnt all this things, his mastery over  Tamil language at this  very young age.He was in tears & thanked God silently.Thereafter he was very much proud of his brother & told also his  wife what he had seen, how the audience became spell bound.Let us meet again  & share what happened in  Ramalingam's life.

GODDESS VADIVUDAI AMMAN BRINGING FOOD TO RAMALINGAM

Ramalingam stayed wih his brother's family in North chennai called" MINT"(தங்கச்சாலை).He used to go to  Thiruvotriyur temple daily from his home by walk which is 7 kms away.He was 12years old then.He was so much attracted towards Lord  Thigaraja &Goddes Vadivudai Amman ,he wrote numerous devotional songs praising their kindness towards all living beings. One day after worshiping at Thiruvotriyur temple,he returned very lately to his home around mid night. His brorher's wife waited for him to provide  food .As he has not returned till mid night, she was worried but thought he might have  stayed with some of his friend's house & might  come in the morning&went to sleep locking the door.Ramalingam found that the door was locked. He was very much hungry ,walking 14kms.He tried to sleep  in  the sit out near the  entrance (திண்ணை).But his hunger did n't allow him. Then he saw his brother'wife bringing him food, telling him not to worry & take the food. Then he slept there. In the morning , when his brother's wife came out ,she found Ramalingam sleeping  in the sit out.She immediately woke him up asking  why he has not called last night & asked him to take break  fast as he  should be hungry without night meals,When Ramalingam told her that she brought him food last night&waited till he took the meal. But replied that she was asleep & did n't come there. Now Ramalingam realized    that it   is none other than Goddess Vadivudai Amman in the guise of his brother's wife. What a penance Ramalingam has done that Goddess  herself came to feed him.                                                                                                                                                               You hear it from his own words.

Pongal festival is celebrated in Tamil Month “ Thai”  which usually falls on Januaury 14th.The day before Pongal festival is called Bhogi Pongal or Bhogi  Pandigai in Tamilnadu(India). This is a festival of farmers.Cultivation of paddy starts from the month of Aadi(july 3rd week) &harvesting is done during the month of Margazhi(december end).Short term veg.crops like country beans(avarai),thuvarai(pulse),root veg.called karunai kizhangu are available in plenty during this season.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                         Harvested paddy bags & these vegetables reaches the farmer's house. All the relatives,  neighbors & farm workers are united in celebrating this festival."bhogi" means happiness. All the farmers celebrate  this festival in a grand manner. On  bhogi day whole house(both inside &outside)is completely cleaned.Clothes ,dresses, bed sheets every thing washed. All the vessels kept  in the kitchen  cleaned.Whole surrounding is kept in Hygienic condition. All the houses are whitewashed(painting) & decorated.Bhogi is the preparatory day for celebrating pongal festival.                                                                                                                                                                   If the harvest is plenty paddy bags are sold in the market.Farmers buy new gold, silvver ornaments&new clothes for their family. There is happy atmosphere everywhere in the village. The next day celebration is called Pongal &   after that comes ,Mattu pongal  & Kanum pongal.Pongal is a thanks giving day celebration  for Planet Sun God.As Planet Sun plays an important role in agriculture, farmers worship it in a grand manner. The  next day celebration is called Mattu pongal.Bullocks, cows, goats & hens play a vital  role in farmer's life.So they  celebrate this festival by honoring them.If you see personally these festivals ,you will be delighted.Next day is called  "kanum pongal",ie meeting the elders personally & seeking their  blessings. In some places it is called "kanni pongal which is meant for mostly unmarried girls. They unite &celebrate.Newly married couples also celebrate this happily. In  astrology,Planet sun  enters Mahara rasi in the first day of Tamil month "Thai" ie is Pongal day(Makara Sankaranti)

EARLY LIFE OF SRI.RAMALINGA ADIGALAR CONNECTED TO THIRUVOTRIYUR.

I am sure ,those who have viewed my first posting(THIRUVOTRIYUR(NORTH MADRAS),would remember Lord Shiva's(Thiagaraja)role in Sundhara moorthy nayanar's life.Similarly Lord Muruga of Thiruttani,Thiruvotriyur Thiagaraja & his consort Thiripurasundhari(Vadivudai Amman) have played important role in the life of  Sri.Ramalinga adigalar who is fondly called as "vallalar" in Tamilnadu." ' Vallal' means who donates (food, clothes money )to poor people in Tamil. He was not a wealthy person. He had deep sympathy towards all living beings including animals &plants. His life period is before Independence of India(1823 AD-1874).He offered free food to everyone who visited him  in a free kitchen called "Sathia dharuma saalai".You should note the word 'sathia' which means truth. He advised people to synchronize three things .One should speak with an open mind which should result in good deed ,that is thinking, utterance&action .He insisted on not hurting & killing any living beings. He conveyed in his poem that he felt so much sad when he saw a  withering plant(வாடிய  பயிரை  கண்ட  போதெல்லாம் வாடினேன் ).His elementary school teacher was surprised when he saw his poems in Tamil at the age of nine because it normally takes five years at college level to write a poem.He simply told him not to attend classes as he was  extremely talented in Tamil  language. He had lost his father as an one year  boy & migrated to North  Chennai to live with his elder brother called  "Sabapathy Pillai".His brother's wife was a kind lady & looked after him very well. When his brother came to know that   Ramalingam   did n't attend classes,he was so much worried about his studies & future,he asked  his brother to attend classes but in vain.So  he asked his wife to stop feeding him, so that he can make him study. This did n't work out.                                                                            Mr.Sabapathy's wife gave food to  Ramalingam secretly. She was worried that he has to take food as a thief . After sometime she convinced his husband that his brother was a good boy & he should be allotted a room in upstairs for his personal studies & staying .Ramalingam gladly  accepted this & moved to room in the upstairs.Except for taking food,he spent all the time in  his room.He worshiped Lord Muruga of tiruttani ,fully concentrating his  mind for many days. One day suddenly Lord Muruga appeared  in a mirror kept in his room,he was overjoyed seeing God's presence. This was his 2nd experience of  seeing God,first one at the age of  five months when his parents  took him  to Lord Nataraja  temple. You read it in his  own words in Tamil." I 'll come out with another wonderful experience of Ramalinga in the next one.

Importance of Kolam/Rangoli

Kolam/Rangoli is called WAVE in English, the art of drawing a Kolam can be called as Waving.
Kolam is a drawing generally drawn at the entrance of a house, temple or any other building.Drawing kolam increases the creativity inside you.It has some medical importance too. This is a good old practice of South India. Dried rice flour is to used for drawing kolams which is served as food for ants. There are numerous traditional kolams patterns and lot more can be created depending on the creativity of the person who draws it, it is not drawn like a picture. Patterns are created based on certain systems. Drawing Kolam is practiced by women.Generally women get up early in the morning and clean the area just outside the entrances of their houses, sprinkle the area with water and draw the kolam by dropping the loose dried flour in a controlled way through their forefinger and the thumb.
Mostly the kolam patterns are created based on dots arranged in different types of grid patterns. However, many non-dot based kolam patterns also are available.
Purpose of Kolam Drawing
Purpose of kolams are not merely decorative. Kolam drawing has several social, spiritual and symbolic meanings attached to it.We have a beleif that drawing kolam purify the entrance space and this in turn will invite the goddess of wealth,Lakshmi to enter the house. This would give the house inmates all wealth and prosperity.
It is a good exercise by sitting, standing and moving in patterns while making the kolam. A lot of ozone and thus oxygen-rich atmosphere is healthy to get in the early morning.
Drawing Types
Kolam patterns can be drawn in deferent ways.Generally the kolams based on dots can be drawn either by joining the dots by straight or curved lines or patterns can be created by drawing lines between and around the dots.

So friends, Keep drawing kolams in different patterns and invite Goddess Lakshmi to your house.Live healthy & Wealthy :)

THIRUVOTRIYUR(NORTH CHENNAI)

In this thickly populated industrial city you can find a peaceful place to relax your mind.Popularly called "VADIVUDAIAMMAN  TEMPLE" (Sri.Thiagarajaswamy devasthanam),saints Thirunavukkarasar(appar),Sundharamoorthy  nayanmar, kalia nayanar,Pattinathar ,Adhi Shankarar &Vallalar Sri.Ramalinga Adigalar have worshipped in this temple.I would like to share an interesting happening in the life of Sundharamoortthy nayanar, hereafter let me  call him Sundharar. He is an ardent devotee of Thiruvarur Sri.Thiagaraja(Lord Siva). He has sung lot of poems  in  Tamil in praise of Him.He has lived there with his wife called Paravai Nachiar. Both of them are extremely devoted to Lord Siva there. They used to celebrate all the temple festivals there especially "thiruvathirai festival" which comes in the Tamil month of Margazhi , in a grand manner including free  offering of  food to all devotees  coming there.Sundharar  was not a landlord(not  owning any  agricultural land  & any immovable property),but all the foodgrains, money to be spent for the free  offering  was arranged by Lord Siva himself with a request by Sundharar. As God Siva is a lover of Tamil Songs ,Sundharar would sing beautiful songs in which he would  request  God what are all needed, which would be fulfilled by Siva(with some thrilling acts). When Sundharar visited Thiruvotriyur he observed a young woman devotee offering garlands to Lord  Siva regularly. He was attracted towards her  by her Bhakthi(affection towards God).Even though,he has married Paravai nachiar,he proposed  to  the young devotee at Thiruvotriyur temple(called Sangili nachiar) to marry him.Sangili agreed to marry Sundharar with one condition that he should not leave her  during Thiruvarur temple festival time as he is an ardent devotee of  Thiruvarur Thiagaraja. To confirm her condition, she asked Sundharar to take a vow at swami Siva's Sannidhi(Lord's place) that he would not desert  her. Marriage was  fixed next day. Before that Sundharar went to Lord Siva & Requested him  to hide in  a famous  flower tree(called Magizha maram in Tamil)  inside the temple, when he brings sangili  to take the vow by the next day(wedding day),so that he need not fulfill his promise(as lord will not be in sannidhi).Lord Siva  agreed to this. That day night,Lord Siva appeared in Sangili Nachiars dream  & advised her to take the marriage  vow at the Maghizha flower tree  instead  of  in his Sannidhi.Next day ,Sangili  told Sundarar, that he can take the  oath at the tree, saying that it is not proper to call  God as witness,Sundarar had to agree to that .So he married her at the tree side &  circled the tree three times as per  the marriage custom  with Lord siva's presence(hidden). Then Sundarar after sometime left for some holy places leaving Sangili at Thiruvottiyur. He became blind & lost his vision in both eyes,as he could not keep his promise. After some ordeal, by singing in praise of Siva ,God gives him one eye's vision& later another eye.Till date this marriage function is celebrated at Thiruvotriyur temple's Magizha tree.let me share with you, with another interesting happening of sundara's  life when he visits his first wife Paravai Nachiar at Thiruvarur later.
