यदा पुत्रमित्रादयो मत्सकाशे
रुदन्त्यस्य हा कीदृशीयं दशेति ।
तदा देवदेवेश गौरीश शंभो
नमस्ते शिवायेत्यजस्रं ब्रवाणि ॥ २३ ॥
யதா புத்ரமித்ராதயோ மத்ஸகாஸே
ருதந்த்யஸ்ய ஹா கீத்ருஸீயம் தஸேதி |
ததா தேவதேவேஸ கௌரீஸ ஸம்போ
நமஸ்தே ஸிவாயேத்யஜஸ்ரம் ப்ரவாணி || 23
यदा = எப்பொழுது पुत्रमित्रादय = பிள்ளைகள் , நண்பர்கள்
முதலானவர்கள் मत्सकाशे= என் அருகில் ( அமர்ந்து ) हा = ஐயோ !
अस्य = இவனுக்கு कीदृशी = எப்பேற்பட்ட इयं = இந்த दशा = அவஸ்தை ( வந்திருக்கிறது ) इति = என்று ( சொல்லி ) रुदनति =
அழுகிறார்களோ तदा = அப்பொழுது देवदेवेश = தேவாதிதேவனே, गौरीश = பார்வதியின் பதியான शंभो =
சிவபெருமானே! शिवाय = சிவபெருமானாகிய ते = உமக்கு नम :
வணக்கம் इति = என்று अजस्रं = அடிக்கடி ब्रवाणि =சொல்வேனாக .
மரண காலத்தில் நாம் சுயபுத்தியை இழந்து விடுவோம் .
அப்பொழுது நாம் படும் அவஸ்தையைப் பார்த்து நம்
புத்திரர், நண்பர் முதலானோர் நம்மருகில் அமர்ந்து
கொண்டு" ஐயோ ரொம்பவும் அவஸ்தைப் படுகிறாரே
பார்க்க ஸஹிக்கவில்லையே" என்று பலவாறு புலம்பி
அழுவார்கள். இந்நிலையிலும் கூட நம்முடைய வாயிலிருந்து
நம : ஸிவாய என்ற பஞ்சாக்ஷர மந்திரம் வெளிவர
வேண்டும்.அந்த மந்திரம் எப்பொழுதும் உச்சரிக்கப் படுமாகில் நிச்சயமாக யமஉபாதை நமக்கு ஏற்படாது .மேலும் சிவபெருமானுடைய அருளால் நாம் பரம பதத்தை
பெறலாம். Patragiriar used to feed
a dog which stayed near by him. When some one asked pattinathar seeking alms ,he replied that he himself is a beggar & that the person should go to west tower & ask Patragiriyar , the family man.He went to Patragiriyar & told him that the sadhu sitting in the eastern tower directed me to ask you food as you are a family man( Generally family persons are supposed to feed the needy poor & sadhus).Patragiriyar on hearing this became emotional & through the alms seeking vessel over the dog .Both Patragiri & the dog got liberated at the same time there.As renounced sadhus are supposed not to have any attachment(binding),Patragiri felt very much sad on hearing his Guru's words & done the above deed.what a noble person.Later Pattinathar obtained salvation at the Holy place Thiruvottriyur ( North chennai ).A temple is constructed there in memory of him( Jeeva samadhi or Adhishtanam) in the sea shore.Pattinathar saint has written several Tamil songs praising God Shiva & also directing people to lead a disciplined life.
