Learn how to make elai vadam, rice vadam, which is made using banana leaf by steaming the rice batter. It is super thin, crispy, light and flavourful.
IngredientsRice - 1/2 kg (raw rice)Salt - as neededCumin seeds - 2 tsp heaped
You will need a plate and cut a banana leaf in the same shape and size as the banana leaf, by inverting the plate over the banana leaf and running a knife to cut along the plate's outline. Below you can see the wet rice batter and round shaped, cut banana leaf. Place the idli plate in inverted position. This way, it is easy to place the pate as well as easy to take the plate after steaming. Just placing the cooked papads in a mat near the kitchen, photo below: Drying vadam (papads) in sunlight. These photos are clicked in our home for Karadayan nonbu pooja.From top to bottom 1.Kolam at our entrance 2.at the portico( Maakkolam - Kolam drawn with wet rice flour) 3 &4 pooja room, You can notice the turmeric sacred thread,butter applied over the karadai offering.This sacred thread is worn after performing this pooja praying to God, to bless the husband with longer life, at the auspicious time,that is 5.33 pm for this year festival. Every woman in the house has to wear this holy thread by themselves .It should be tied by the individual alone ,one should not tie it to another married woman,
